Understanding the importance of good workplace conditions
Knowing the benefits of good workplace conditions

Discover what successful people in business know about how to get the increase in sales and success they desire. For every type of business, there are legal guidelines that companies and their employers and employees must follow.

This is for everyone's satisfaction, as well as protection.

As an employer - It's up to you to research and know, in no uncertain terms, just what the laws are for your workplace conditions. Pass this information on to your employees.

Especially if your business involves the operation of heavy equipment and/or machinery. Or toxic materials. Or the storing and/or moving of heavy merchandise.

As an employee - And as an intelligent person who desires to stay safe and keep your work position ...

It's up to you to know, again in no uncertain terms, the legal/right and illegal/wrong ways of doing your work. And, when in doubt, ask somebody who knows.

Assume nothing.

Don't take it on yourself to do something without being really sure first. Doing so can cause major problems. Not just for you, but for your co-workers, employer and business as well.

It doesn't matter if you're an employer or an employee. Your workplace conditions are of the utmost importance. This includes everything from the physical aspects to the overall atmosphere. And each of these influences the other.

Make sure your workplace conditions are good. Meaning that everything is kept organized and clean on an ongoing basis.

When you look good, you feel good This affects the way people feel about not only where they work, but about themselves. People need to have reason(s) to take pride in what they do and how they do it. People are much happier. That makes them much more productive.

And there's no end to the good effects great workplace conditions will have on customers.

One other condition to think about in your workplace - The temperature.

If your workplace is too warm, people, including customers, can't focus on what they're doing. They're too busy trying to figure out how to get cool. They tend to get sluggish and even irritable.

And if your workplace is too cool, people, including customers, can't focus on what they're doing. They're too busy trying to figure out how to get warm. Customers have been known to leave a place of business that's too cool.

Obviously, balance is the key. Not too warm. Not to cool. Pay attention to this element of your workplace on an ongoing basis.

At the end of the day If you're an employer, it's up to you to set the tone and direction of your workplace by everything you do. Make it clear to employees, from the very beginning, how you desire workplace conditions kept. Especially, at the end of a workday.

Sure everyone will probably be tired and ready to go home ... But - It really needs to be understood that this final clean up is just as, if not even more, important than anything else they do during business hours. And that it's up to everyone to see that the workplace is left in the best of shape at the end of the day.

If there's a lot of grumbling about this, just ask these people one question. If they were the ones coming in the next day and opening for business, which would they rather have - A place of business that's ready to go or one that means spending the first hour or so getting ready to go?

Often, there'll be at least a few of these people who have had to come in and open for business. They'll know what you're talking about. And they'll help you encourage the others.

Bottom line ... No matter what your business. No matter how many or few employees you have. Keep your place of business clean, neat and organized.

These are the basics of good workplace conditions. Practice them.
